From the Big Pineapple to Mama Africa.

In Episode 3 of B-Side HNL, we dig deep into the vinyl crates with Honolulu’s Secret Record Store before turning the spotlight on twin troubadours Nalani & Sarina.

The journey continues with an excursion into the fascinating and bewildering nation of Ghana, where we ride with BMX daredevils in preview of the upcoming Bike Lordz film, stand in awe of the world’s largest electronic waste dump and drop in on Ghana’s most dynamic and moving music-makers.

Then, is it a rock video or dramatic short film? B-Side HNL returns to the Isles with Hawaii’s own Kings of Spade in “Secret Lover”.

Special thanks to Kevin Cruze, John Friend, Casey Ishitani, Chalin Barton and Secret Record Store; HIP Video Promo; Nalani & Sarina; Pat Thomas & Kwashibu Area Band; Strut Records; Chris Caliman; Sam Feather-Garner, Mikey Hart and Kings of Spade.

And as always, follow the action on the B-Side HNL Facebook page.

I am a lifelong Honoluluan whose true calling is to tell the stories of others, whether through photos, film, video, audio or the written word. Here is a collection of my works – some previously published in periodicals like Billboard, the Honolulu Advertiser, Honolulu Star-Bulletin and Honolulu Weekly, though most of what you read or view here has never been seen before.
