For some, it’s the swanky affair they missed in high school. For others, a chance to relive glorious memories of youth. Or it might be an easy excuse to knock back a few shots and get rowdy with old friends to a diverse, colorful lineup of live bands.

In the name of good fun, Aloha Prom 2017 brought together a number of disparate adult cliques under the roof of Hawaiian Brian’s with entertainment from Spooky Couch, The City Limits, Introspektra and Castle Park.

Also included in this episode of B-Side HNL are music videos and an emergency session of the Beatroot music contest, designed to find the final two competitors for Hawaii’s longest-running beat battle.

I am a lifelong Honoluluan whose true calling is to tell the stories of others, whether through photos, film, video, audio or the written word. Here is a collection of my works – some previously published in periodicals like Billboard, the Honolulu Advertiser, Honolulu Star-Bulletin and Honolulu Weekly, though most of what you read or view here has never been seen before.
